Shree Ganapati Atharvashirsha

Lord Ganapati is the god of knowledge and wisdom . He is the giver of all worldly and material things and protects us from all the difficulties and obstacles in life and hence is known as Sukhakarta Dukhaharta .

Pooja , aarti , fasting , chanting of mantras and stotras are various ways to offer prayers to Lord Ganesha . Amongst all these Shree Ganapati Atharvashrisha is considered to be most effective way to offer our sacrificial offerings to Lord Ganesha .

Chanting of Atharvashirsha is usually done on Tuesdays , Sankashti and Vinayaki Chaturthi ( fourth day from New moon and full moon every month) and on Ganesh Chaturthi .

Shree Ganapati Atharvashrisha is the Upanishad of Athrvaveda and it is written by Sage Ganaka .

Atharvashirsha shows us how one can slowly move on from worshiping Lord Ganesha in murthi form to the subtle worship of the formless Brahman .

Other speciality of Athrvashirsha is that in most of the other stotras we first find the description of the diety’s statue (murthi) and then praises (dhyan) for the diety . But in Atharvashirsha it is vice versa . Here Lord Ganesha is praised first and then his swarupa is described .

Shantimantra , Dhyanavidhi and Phalshruti are the three parts in which this Atharvashirsha is divided . Shantimantra appears twice . Once at the beginning and then at the end of the stotra .
